:: Diminutive Antique Silk Tabriz rug mat. Rare type + rare size antique silk Tabriz ca. 1890 of the ‘Haji Jalili’ variety. Center medallion with open ivory field, rust / orange across. Some very light hints of green (unique!) and a lovely shade of light purple. A true gem with great knot density. The rug measures in excess of 400 knots per inch: without an immediate reference point for size, the intricacy of this rug lends to the appearance of a carpet in much large proportions. A very fine weave. There were never a great deal of these made: While the type itself is relatively rare, the most common size is approximately 4×6, and many of the smaller sizes were woven much less frequently and considerably more prone to damage or loss. Only a handful of this size, type and age ever surface, with only a few sold publicly in the last several decades only to be stowed away in private collections. Rug mat being sold in as-is condition, cleaning options available by request upon purchase only. Some slight scattered stains as you can see in photos but not terribly noticeable and still shows beautifully. Size measures 1’10” x 2’7″
